Monroe reiterates his long-denied financial claims, in 1826 Congress had voted Monroe $ 30,000.00 in settlement, the present work includes added material showing "the difference between the claims presented ... & the decision on them." The claims arose from his diplomatic service as United States minister to France in 1794 and 1803, and details the monetary outlays involved. Supporting evidence includes letters from Mr. Gouvain, Major Mountflorence, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, and Talleyrand. This work would have been a hometown or local publication for Monroe.
