The present work, apparently unpublished, presents the adventures of its heroine, Eliane of Hermont. The work is set in the 18th century, and Eliane lives in "an antique castle in Britany." Eliane's mother was a Creole, a native of the island of Mauritius. The family leaves Mauritius and returns to Brittany, bringing with them a "negress" one of their slaves who regales Eliane with tales of sorcery and ghosts. Eliane's adventures continue after her acquaintance with Queen Mab and various fairies.
