One of the most important sources for the war in the West. The author, one of the first Kentuckians to join the North-west army, sought and obtained a large amount of material regarding the Indian wars of the western frontier from the actors in engaged in them. The work is based in large part upon his own journal and material supplied by two of his most able commanders, William Henry Harrison, and Governor Shelby, of Kentucky. McAfee's narrative is of great historical value, and contains much material that later histories do not possess or simply copy from his work.
